Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Kutaisis - Mestia - Ushguli

Day 1.  Arrival in Tbilisi.
Transfer to the hotel. Free time.

Night in Tbilisi.

Day 2. Mtskheta-Kutaisi
Mtskheta. Excursion to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia, recent religious centre. The town is included in the list of UNESCO. Here, in the 4th century, Georgia was officially converted to Christianity by Saint Nino, a young woman from Jerusalem. Under the main church Svetitskhoveli (the life giving pillar) is buried the Robe of the Christ, one of the most important relic of  Christian world. Because of this and many facts Mtskheta has a role of the main pilgrimage cites of Georgia.
We will have the first glimpse of Mtskheta from a hill, where stands Jvari monastery.

Bagtari Cathedral.
Kutaisi – The ancient capital of western Georgian kingdom of Kolkhety. In 1122 residence of Georgian kings moved to Tiflis, freed from the Seljuk Turks ...
Gelaty Monastery with the academy which was prosperous religious and secular educational centre from the 12th century.
The monastery became the last a shelter of its founder - David the Builder.
Built in the early 11th century, Bagtari Cathedral was named after the first king of united Georgia, Bagrat III.  At that time it was the main cathedral of the country. Its importance to the historical heritage of Georgia cannot be overestimated. The temple has long been a cultural and political center. The rich mosaics and traditional craftsmanship carvings talking about the past greatness of the building. The temple was consecrated in 1003. There was crowned famous king David the Builder.

Day 3. Mestia
Svaneti, Mestia –
If you have just a bit desire of Georgia, visit Svaneti,” advised great Georgian writer Ilia Chavchavadze to next generations. It was extremely hard to go there in early times. The main road was just a track for horses. Because of it Svaneti was unreachable for the enemies and many things preserved. “The place of thousand towers”, this is the region, also famous with amazingly beautiful nature, high snowy peaks, wild rivers and hospitable people. Via Enguri Gorge drive up To Mestia. Just at the border of Samegrelo and Svaneti visit Enguri Dam, the biggest one in Caucasus.
In Svaneti there are hundreds of traditional towers preserved. Also, only in this region, hundreds of small, but beautiful churches remained. Usually, in the mountainous places there are no Churches, or very little amount. Why in Svaneti, you will be informed on the place.
All these architecture of Svaneti are enlisted in world heritage of UNESCO.

Day 4. Mestia
According to the current administrative subdivision of Georgia, Mestia is located in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. Mestia is surround by Zuruldi ridge on the south side, Mount Tshakvzagari on the north, a mountain range Banguriani on the east, and on the west side overlooks the top of Laila. There are several mineral spring. One spring is located in the center, and three springs on the bank of the river Malakhuri.
Excursion to Chaladi Glacier. Part of the way we will drive in a car and then about 1 hour move along the river in the mountains by foot.

Day 5. Ushguli
Breakfast in guesthouse.
Ushguli - this is the high-mountain inhabited village in Europe. It is situated 2200 meters above the sea in the east of part  Svaneti. Ushguli located at the source of the Inguri River, at the foot of the mountain Shkhara (5068 meters). From center of Mestia it is  about 45 kilometers to the east along the main road to reach Ushguli. Ushguli community consists of four villages - Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Chazhashi and Murkmeli. If you go to the east, then immediately from the right side will be Zhibiani village and 140 meters from the road is visible grove and temple. The famous temple Lamaria with frescoes stands next, beyond the village. Then, from the right side you will see Chvibiani village with a church and several towers almost on the road.

Day 6. Back to Tbilisi
On the way to Tbilisi, visit Enguri river Dam, the biggest one in Georgia and  excursion in Dadiani Palace in Zugdidi

Day 7. Tbilisi city tour
Breakfast in the hotel.
Tbilisi city tour- excursion to the old town with narrow streets, preserved the features of medieval buildings, visiting of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (Sameba) - Millennium Project; historical trading area of the city; Sioni Cathedral; the territory of the sulfur baths.

Lunch and dinner by the wish ( not included)
Farewell dinner  in a restaurant with Folk Program, including Georgian dances and singing.
Night in Tbilisi.

Day 8.
Breakfast in the hotel
Тransfer to airport.
